- Waterfront: Cowichan Lake is crystal clear, weed free and has no leeches or blood suckers. The shoreline is gently sloped with no precipitous drop offs and is child friendly although children must always be supervised. Beach is finely pebbled. Dock is available at the shoreline.
- Year-round moorage at own dock; swim off the dock or beach.
- Shopping is available at the General Store in Youbou (5 minutes drive, 09:00 to 23:00) and more comprehensively in Lake Cowichan town centre, just 10 minutes from the cottage. Large urban shopping centres are available at Duncan (30 minutes), and Victoria (1 and 1/4 hours).
